GST: non-compliance will attract heavy penalty

August 21, 2019 12:20 am | Updated 12:21 am IST - TIRUPATI

With the deadline for the payment of Goods and Services Tax (GST) just ten days away, the Tirupati GST Commissionerate has cautioned the public about the perils of non-payment.

GST payers (both normal taxpayers and composition taxpayers) are required to file GST annual returns for the financial year 2017-18 in GSTR 9/9A/9C (as applicable) on or before August 31, 2019. The Department of Centrax Tax has cautioned taxpayers that defaulters will be penalised an amount of ₹200 per day, which may extend to a quarter per cent of turnover as late fee for delayed filing of the annual returns.

“In case of any difficulty in filing, taxpayers may approach Seva Kendras located at all the central GST offices,” Commissioner M. Srihari Rao said. The department will conduct an awareness programme on August 21 (Wednesday) at the Regional Science Centre auditorium from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
